Speaker Series: Cary High School’s Farm-Life Program – A Model for Its Time

  • 21 May 2024
  • 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Page-Walker Arts & History Center

In 1913, Cary High School Principal, Marcus Dry, a progressive thinker and educator, established a Farm-Life Program. A demonstration farm with a barn and cottage was built for the program on Walnut Street where it remains today. At the demonstration farm, boys learned about farming best practices such as crop rotation and plowing; in the school’s kitchen,  young women learned about nutrition and best homemaking practices.

Learn more about this 100-year-old model at a program sponsored by Cary’s Historic Preservation Commission and the Friends of the Page-Walker in celebration of Historic Preservation Month.  Light refreshments will be served.
